Awesome machine
I purchased this machine off of eBay and use it at home. It is certainly a bit of overkill for my grand total of two users...but I wanted a coffee machine with a fancy GUI and lots of buttons ;-) and could be plumbed directly to the water supply. Well, this machine is all that and more.

Very convenient to use in an office environment
We have this machine in our office, a unit of a large entertainment corporation. It's a very convenient appliance that sees a lot of use every day. Our floor is about 30-40 people and this machine happily attends to all our caffeine needs.

It's very reliable and easy to use. In the year+ I've been here, it has only broken down once, requiring a service call from a repair technician. To use, select the brew strength and service option (over ice, big, small, etc) and the motorized door opens for you to insert the brew pack. For added safety, there's a sensor to detect the presence of a cup. If you remove the cup, dispensing stops until you move the cup back under the sensor. You can also get hot water by itself from the machine. The cup rests on a platform that catches and holds spilled liquid. Behind it is a waste collection drawer holds about 30 spent packs and emptying it takes literally 10 seconds. Slide out the cup platform, then slide out the drawer, dump, and put...
Perfect single cup brewing
Yes, I've had them all. K-cups out the wazzoo, Cuisinart makers of all types including the current top of the line grind and brew, but this thing really makes coffee making and drinking easy - and fun too! Great to make a latte right in my own kitchen and it looks better than the local Starbucks barista makes. Expensive for this model, but you can get in on the Flavia fun for a lot less with one of the Fusion units. They require a little more work, but produce the same top quality coffee with essentially no delay. We still use the grind and brew, in fact, while I'm making a pot in that machine, I also make my first cup of the day in this one. My first cup is ready before the G&B is done grinding. Great when entertaining too, as you can make something special for each guest - while they watch. Since the machine collects the filter packets, there's no mess and no cleanup between cups or disposing of dripping K cups. I expect that these things will explode in popularity. C400...

Modern design french press consists of a narrow cylindrical glass jug, equipped with a lid and a stainless plunger, which fits tightly in the cylinder glass beaker and which has a fine wire mesh acting as a filter. Coffee is brewed by placing the coffee and water together, leaving to brew for a few minutes, then depressing the plunger to trap the coffee grinds at the bottom of the glass jug. A French press requires coffee of a more coarse grind than that used for a drip brew coffee filter, such as produced by a burr mill grinder rather than the whirling blade variety, as a finer grind will seep through the press filter and into the coffee. Because the coffee grounds remain in direct contact with the brewing water and the grinds are filtered from the water via a mesh instead of a paper filter, coffee brewed with the French press captures more of the coffee's flavor and essential oils, which would become trapped in a traditional drip brew machine's paper filters. French pressed coffee is usually stronger and thicker and has more sediment than drip-brewed coffee. Double wall borosilicate glass retains heat and freshness longer. Design Flaws!
I purchased this because I was so impressed with the design. It has an air gap between the inner lining and outer glass wall. This means that it is extremely well insulated, and will keep the coffee hot for a long time. This is much better design than the solid glass french presses, which allow the coffee to cool down quickly.

This is the problem with this unit though, which makes it useless. The little pour spout is not designed properly. When I go to pour coffee from the press, the coffee simply runs down the side of the press as if there were no pour spout there at all. This is a fatal flaw. If I try to pour fast or slow it does not matter. There is not a pour speed at which the coffee will pour out of the press. It ends up running down the outer wall, and then dumping on the table.

I am just curious . . . did they never actually try and use this product? How could they ship something that so clearly does NOT WORK?

No problems
While looking for the right French press for mostly making tea, I really wanted a glass dome, for the visual aspect, as well as double walled. This double wall does keep liquid hot longer and adds to durability. I love that it has no metal rings or handle as well. The internal metal pieces unscrew in seconds making it very easy to clean.

After reading about the pouring problems I asked at the store if I could try pouring. I have NO PROBLEMS POURING. This is really a great press and I am happy with this choice after some extensive searching.
possible solution to design flaw
Love the design; but like the other reviewer, I'm often surprised by the lack of "form follows function" in many products. However I do enjoy the challenge of making them work... in this case, IF the wide collar of the lid (which I think inhibits pouring) is thin enough, I'd suggest cutting-out an upside-down 'U' shape (diameter of a dime or nickle) & lining this up w/the pour spout.
I regularly use Bodum + other double-walled glassware & love the technology... I may buy this French Press just to see if my idea works.

Great and Practical
I chose this rating, simply because it is a super-excellent product. It makes a perfect cup of espresso (with different color capsule coffee varieties available depending on intensity, tastes, etc.). The milk frother, just push a button an in about 30 seconds you have perfect frothed steamed milk -- no manual labor required. It is practical, since it takes a couple of seconds (or a couple more for a cappuccino) to make the espresso, simple to use. GREAT!!! LOVE IT!!!

So far so good,description a little misleading.
I just received this kettle and am pleased with it but if you are expecting a brushed finish on the housing you might like to know the only brushed finish is on the lid and inserts on the handle.The pot itself is a gleaming mirror finish.Packing is great.My first attempt to use it required me to flick the switch to on position several times but it works fine now on each attempt.Don't know why initial start had that result.Boils water quickly,much quieter than my previous kettle.Nice blue light illuminates the pitcher contents and level indicator.A little odor right at the lid and spout after first couple of uses but no taste problem.I would give it 5 stars based on function,looks and value but I am waiting to see if the initial start up requiring several attemts is just a one time deal or not.Housing gets pretty hot but handle stays cool to the touch.Seems to keep water heated for a decent time after shutting off.I like the fact that there are no bells and whistles,just an on/off...

Beautiful and powerful kettle
I have used electric kettles like this for over 30 years. They last a very long time and doesn't cost a fortune on electricity bills or to own one.
This one is very good in many aspects.
The base is big and firm with the rubber stops. You don't have to worry about accidentally tripping it.
The see thru side lights up in elegant midnight blue when you flip the switch allowing you to see the water level. Vey nice feature. My old one had no see thru and I always have to guess if I had enough water to make tea or coffee.
The flip switch is very easy to use.
The kettle holds plenty of water, it's a good size and still boils vey fast.
The lid is very secure and nice buffered release mechanism where it doesn't flip wide open all at once ( risk burning the hand or spill).
The exterior is polished shiny, only the metal parts on the lid and the handle is brushed.

My other unit had a reset button. I need to check if this one has a reset button or...
Krups kettle
Usually I would try to find some negatives to a product since nothing is ever perfect. With the Krups Breakfast Set Kettle, I can't say it's 'perfect' but I also cannot find any faults. I've used the kettle a few times so this is an initial impression. Aesthetically the kettle looks very nice. The stainless steel mirror finish is very appealing and the kettle itself is a nice size, not too big and not too small. Even better is when the kettle is working and the water level indicator lights up blue. The one negative I was expecting was an aftertaste as some stainless steel kettles cannot avoid but having an aftertaste in the boiled water, but I could not taste anything like that here. It doesn't take that long to get water to boil and overall the product performs as expected and advertised. The price point at $100 would have been too much, in my opinion, but at under $70 I think this is a worthwhile purchase for those in need of a kettle that will definitely add to the look of...

My 6th Super-Automatic and the Best so Far!
I have been using super-automatic espresso machines since 2001. This is my 6th machine and by far my favorite. Having owned one Capresso C1500, three Jura-Capressos, one Saeco and now the Gaggia Academia, I've found this machine to outperform the rest by far. I loved the quality of the Capresso and Jura-Capresso machines, but having to send them in once a year for service at a cost of over $300 was excessive. There is no way to service the inside of these machines. Plus, I could never get the milk hot enough with the built-in frothing system on the S9 One-Touch or the Z5 and these machines lacked an external frothing wand so it was impossible to heat the milk any hotter than it came out of the machine. Next I purchased Saeco Primea Touch Plus and that was a complete mistake. The milk system is internal and constantly clogged and refused to function. This machine was returned shortly after purchase. Well designed, sturdy machine that lives up to the promises
I just purchased this machine from Amazon and have been incredibly impressed with the build quality, features, and quality of the coffee produced. You can't beat this machine in terms of the product design, multitudes of modes of operation, and elimination of cleaning chores often associated with fully automatic home machines.

Unboxing the product is your first clue to the level of detail the manufacturer paid to the product experience. As is custom with Gaggia products, this machine was designed and built at the Milan factory -- something that will not escape you from the early moments of opening the box. Once the shipping box is opened, you simply remove the outer box to reveal the inside box, which has two convenient long handles to make it easy for you to lift the machine out of the shipping box. Inside, the sealed inner box contains your unit, with prominent serial number markings on the inner box and the "Made in Milan, Italy" (naturally in Italian) stamped...
Excellent and yummy!!!
First of all, I must say I was VERY skeptical about paying this high of an amount of money for a machine. Secondly, I spent a week reading reviews and going back and forth between this Academia and the Delonghi Gran Dama ESAM6600. I won't go into details of the Delonghi, but I will say that a friend of mine has it and I spent nearly 2 weeks drinking coffee with her here and there and I have to say that I am glad I bought the Gaggia, it makes a way better cup of coffee and has a WAY better milk frothing system than the Delonghi. I can't comment on the maintenance comparissons since I dont own the Delonghi...

Love it!
My husband and I received this as a gift. We are coffee drinkers, so this definately made our day. This coffee maker is very easy to use and easy to clean. The coffee is always piping hot. You can make a cup in about 30 seconds! I like being able to make different varieties of drinks that I couldn't do before. Instructions for making the different drinks are super easy. The coffee, hot chocolate, cappuccinos, and machiatos are all good. The cold drinks (ice cappuccino & peach tea) are wonderful. I would definatley recommend this to anyone. Before, we were ordering our pods online, but I've recently discovered that Walmart sells quite a few of the varieties.

Gift for my wife
I got this as a Christmas gift for my wife. So far we've only tried the latte macciato and the hot chocolate (cocochino) flavors but she likes both of them. The machine is easy enough to use, although an auto shut off option may be worth the extra money (the creativa model has this option). As it is you have to decide when to turn off the machine so you have that control over the strength of the coffee but its hard to get the reccommended amount. The only complaint I have is that amazon says:

"Everything you need to make a hot or cold drink is contained in our easy to use capsules, your new system come with a variety box of 16 capsules, a cappuccino cup and saucer, and a latte macchiato glass mug"

Which is partly true because I got the variety box but I didn't get the cappuccino cup, saucer or latte macciato glass mug. I didn't lower my rating since this has no effect on the coffee maker but I wouldn't have paid what I did if I knew I wouldn't be getting these...

Great new Exprelia Philips-Saeco machine
Finally Philips did what I was expecting: Design a new fully automatic espresso machine at Saeco, the originator of these machines.
The Exprelia is perfect in every aspect. What first strikes me was the silence of operation. Very low noise at every step, grinding, steaming, brewing and cleaning. Compared to my old very noisy DeLonghi Magnifica, it is day and night. The Exprelia is not only fully automatic in making all kind of coffee beverages and particularly cappuccinos, but also in cleaning the milk carafe and everything else. The little screen will tell you what to do at all time. The settings are very easy to adjust and there are plenty of adjustments for all tastes. I was a little apprehensive in buying this machine and be the first to review it, but I trusted not only Philips but also Amazon, both are great company caring a lot for customer satisfaction. DOES EVERYTHING BUT YOUR DISHES!!!
I purchased this machine for my husband's birthday. BOY...it is unbelievable what this machine does! It grinds coffee beans, tamps them and ejects the used grounds into a bin. It goes into a stand-by mode after 60 minutes of no use, at which time, it uses a small amount of water to clean itself. It is a good idea to keep a cup under the dispenser to catch this. Even if you don't do that, it has a nice large tray which will catch the water, although it is much easier to dump the water from a cup, rinse it and place it under the dispenser than it is to clean the tray. The machine has a nice digital display, which tells you exactly what the machine is doing, when it needs more water, when the grounds bin & water tray inside the machine need emptying, when it is time to descale or clean the machine, etc.
It does take some time to figure everything out, especially removing the insides, cleaning them and lubricating them. If you do not put the tamper back the right way, you can tell...
